adelheid creates dance-based experiences to examine human behavior from different perspectives, using relationships as a basis to consider our current social and environmental moment. Exploring interactivity and audience experience, the company creates immersive, installation, ambulatory, site-sensitive and digital works for theatre and non-theatre environments. Award winning choreographer Heidi Strauss is the artistic director of T’karonto-based adelheid. At the heart of their work is collaboration; ‘You are swimming here’ was created with a team of fifteen, including lead developer Luke Garwood, a long-time adelheid collaborator and dancer. The company is currently a Creative Incubator Resident Artist at the Citadel Ross Centre for Dance.
About You Are Swimming Here:
You are swimming here is an installation which takes participants on a journey through a real space transformed by augmented reality to explore the human and natural histories that exist in our shared spaces. An invitation to take time to consider our personal relationships to the world around us, it reflects on natural life cycles, the impact of time on repair, and personal responsibility through a playfully interactive and surreal experience. We encounter unusual events and bodies in a world that intersects with this one.
You are swimming here interacts with you; you are necessary here. This is for you.
Special thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts/Digital Now program, OCAD, The Clutch/Digital Storytelling lab, and Harbourfront Centre for supporting the pilot version.
